Effective Home Remedies for Dandruff Treatment that Really Works

By Ashlyn Baul at 2010-12-01 05:14:36
Dandruff, scientifically termed as pityriasis capitis, is caused by a fungus called Pityrosporum ovale or Malassezia furfur. These fungi make the scalp dry, which causes the formation of scales and flakes. Though scalp's skin normally flakes off due to regeneration of skin cells, dandruff is excessive flaking and it is abnormal. Other people consider dandruff as an allergy resulting from a trigger like food and excessive sweating.

Its important to keep the scalp moist and not overly dry. With the over the counter chemical shampoo sometimes they may have too many chemicals that can destroy protective oils that can prevent dandruff. Dandruff isn't like threatening at all but its just more embarrassing then anything. You don't want to wear a black shirt and see the snow flakes on the your shoulder.

Dandruff is caused by a fungus that creates extra cells to be shed from the scalp in the form of flaking, and this is exactly why these shampoos are using salicylic acid to remove the dead cells so that they do not flake as a result.

Glycerin with coconut oil - Combine one tablespoon glycerin, one tablespoon vinegar, one tablespoon coconut oil, and one egg. Mix until the materials form a paste. Put this mixture on your scalp and let it stay for about one hour.

Tamarind and Sugarcane - Dampen tamarind using water and combine it with molasses. Put this mixture on your scalp and after an hour, cleanse it using a shampoo. Do this once each week.

Apple cider vinegar for dandruff
This is perhaps the most widely known dandruff cure around. It is completely natural and people have been using it for many years now as it is so effective. The way that it work is by destroying the fungus that causes dandruff in the first place.

Hot Oil Treatment

This is an old and proven remedy that consists of mixing hot sesame and olive oil and massaging it in the scalp prior to going to bed. The next day before washing the hair use vinegar and lemon juice in a mix and apply it also to the hair. For a final rinse use a bit of lime juice mixed with water to cleanse the mane properly.

Tea Tree Oil: Strongest known natural antiseptic. Also has punitive skin penetrating capacity as an anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, germicide and fungicide. From the Australian plant Melaleuca Alternifolia.

Fenugreek Seeds

This one needs a bit more advance preparation but nothing too complicated - just mainly time. Soak a few tablespoons of fenugreek seeds overnight in a bowl of water

Some products on the market do use salicylic acid to treat dandruff, but this is an ingredient that has the potential to irritate the scalp and cause further flaking. Within a dandruff product treatment, look for natural sulfur powder to treat dandruff and provide antibacterial benefits to the scalp so that the bacteria that causes dandruff can be stopped at its source.

Home remedies for dandruff are plentiful, so to get rid of dandruff can be a lot lighter on your pocket then you believe. The one that I often hear good things about is the use of tea tree oil, this little product seems to do wonders for a lot of conditions and when it comes to dandruff treatment there isn't any contradiction in this statement.
